Screenwriter Phil Parker and director/screenwriter Josh Bryer are pleased to announce they've signed a non-exclusive shopping agreement with a U.S. production company for their Australian sci-fi superhero screenplay KINDRED.
LOGLINE: A man who refuses to face his past is visited by his future daughter, with a desperate plea: confront his childhood tormentors, before they kill him and enslave the world.
Phil hired to rewrite Australian sci-fi
Josh Bryer and Red Centre films originally produced an Australian sci-fi short film as a 'proof of concept' for KINDRED. That short was an official selection at several sci-fi film festivals including the Boston, Australian, Fantastic Planet, and Melbourne Underground Sci-Fi Film Festivals.
Off the back of that success, and wanting to revamp the feature script for KINDRED, screenwriter Phil Parker was hired to tackle draft five. Red Centre Films was so pleased with the results, they hired him again when the concept was tweaked for draft six.
It was that draft that won accolades at the Bluecat Screenwriting Competition, the Screencraft Screenwriting Contest, and took out first place at the Native American Tribal Film Festival.
But the honors haven't stopped there.
Recognized by The International Screenwriters' Association
Early last year, Phil was honored by the International Screenwriters' Association (ISA) with his inclusion on its exclusive list of 'Top 25 Screenwriters to Watch in 2018'. The script for KINDRED was also placed on their invitation-only Development Slate (Phil's script THE THIRD BOMB is also on the Slate).
Now, Creative Screenwriter Productions, the production arm of the ISA, has gone a step further in recognizing Phil's talents and offered him a non-exclusive, 18-month shopping agreement for KINDRED..
It's a small step on a long journey, but needless to say Phil, and Josh at Red Centre FIlms, are thrilled to have a champion in their corner who believes in them and their Australian sci-fi project. Like Black Panther, KINDRED is a universally-relatable sci-fi story with major-role opportunities for minority actors and they can't wait to see where things go from here.
Are you an industry professional wanting to know more? The screenwriter's status as a dual-citizen makes any international co-production eligible for the Australian government's 40% Producer Tax Offset.

And while you're here, please consider sharing this story of an Aussie sci-fi and its screenwriters as they and theirs search for ways to bring it to life ...because remember ...sharing is sexy! :)
